We all know America has the Grammy Awards; but in my opinion, the foundation shines far too much light on established artists and shies away from the underground, alternative genre. The UK equivalent (for those who are unfamiliar) is the Mercury Prize, except the institution is far more embracing of experimental, new music (James Blake was the winner in 2013-interview coming soon!).

This year, the Mercury Prize has shortlisted many mainstream acts in favor of up and coming acts. Case in point, FKA Twigs found herself on this list with her ethereal LP 1, and Bombay Bicycle Club’s more electronic effort, So Long, See You Tomorrow has landed the Londoners a spot on the nomination list. The nominations of this years Mercury Prize were announced earlier today, and the list is below  (thankfully, many of our favorite acts have made the list).
